Truly Engaging Visits!

The Discovering Art program invites school groups to explore various dimensions of contemporary art through guided tours and themed creative workshops, all designed in connection with the exhibitions currently on view at Plein sud.

Each visit is structured around four core objectives: to observe, describe, analyze, and develop critical thinking. The proposed activities are varied and adapted to participants’ age, academic level, and reflective abilities, offering a rich, inclusive, and stimulating experience.

For preschool and elementary students, a playful, imagination-centered approach is emphasized. After a brief introduction to the artists and their works, children take part in exploratory activities such as observation games or role-playing, encouraging an active and sensory engagement with contemporary art.

For secondary and college students, the approach is interactive and reflective, aiming to foster critical analysis of the artworks rather than deliver prescriptive knowledge. Visits begin with an introduction to the artists’ practices and some key concepts to support comprehension. Situational exercises and guided discussions then encourage the expression of informed and personal viewpoints.

A Key Educational Tool

After a reservation is made, teachers at all levels receive a pedagogical guide to help prepare their group for the exhibition visit. The guide also includes suggestions for post-visit classroom activities to extend the experience and deepen students’ understanding of the themes explored by the featured artists.

Creative Workshop

The guided tour can be extended with a visual arts workshop, available at an additional cost. Inspired by the works on view, the workshop invites participants to explore specific themes, artistic approaches, or materials used by the artists. Through hands-on practice, young participants gain a more personal and sensitive understanding of the exhibition.

Theatre and Visual Arts – A Cross-Disciplinary Discovery

In partnership with Théâtre de la Ville, Longueuil

In collaboration with Théâtre de la Ville, Plein sud offers school groups a unique opportunity to discover two complementary forms of contemporary creation: theatre and contemporary visual arts. During a single outing, students attend a theatrical performance, then take part in a guided tour of the current exhibition at Plein sud, followed by a visual arts workshop.

Plein sud’s tours are based on four pedagogical objectives: to observe, describe, analyze, and form a critical judgment. Adapted to preschool, elementary, secondary, and college audiences, the activities are tailored to participants’ age, learning level, and group size.

Pedagogical Guide – A Practical Teaching Tool

After booking, teachers receive a pedagogical guide to help prepare students for their visit. It also includes classroom activities to extend the artistic experience and reinforce knowledge and skills related to the themes explored by the artists.

Creative Workshop – A Sensitive Extension of the Visit

In addition to the free guided tour, a visual arts workshop may be offered at a fixed cost per participant. Drawing from the exhibited works, the artists, and their practices, this workshop allows students to explore techniques, materials, and approaches inspired by the exhibition. It offers a tangible, engaging, and sensitive way to deepen their connection with contemporary art.
